Hayashi – a meeting of cultures and creative minds

With a Chinese heritage we have always been transparent about Hayashi bags being manufactured in China. Over the years founders Kim and Aimee have built up lasting relationships with suppliers they would class as friends and family. They were finally able to utilise one of the factories expertise to create Hayashi vegan leather products. These include the cross body bag, cardholder and tote bags.

Made in China

Often given a bad rep for being made in China we wanted to share our recent visit talking through how Aimee designs and works with the bag makers to create each product, from the pocket friendly card case to the large slouch tote bag.

Our talented bag master turns Aimee’s sketches into reality. With over 30 years experience samples free hand and creates templates for each collections products.  Aimee selects and colour matching fixings and components to bring the bag together. This is from the zips for the cardholder and cross body to the poppers on the shopper.

From here samples in our Hayashi paper are made for approval and tested for functionality and durability.

As our Hayashi material is paper we die cut our pieces to then be machine sewn to the highest quality and machined in our factory which holds certifications for BSCI, Sedex, Smeta and FSC.

Working with experienced factories means that Aimee can have workshops to discuss new ideas and designs, new bio materials, and embellishment methods such as printing, foiling and embossing which Hayashi customises for like minded brands that look for something sustainable and unique.
