Hayashi – the paper leather material

Hayashi strive to only use plant-based, recyclable or reusable materials that have minimal impact on the environment. The first collection or paper leather accessories launched in stores in AW22 under ‘The Paper Collection’ and were all made from Hayashi paper, a unique vegan, plant-based alternative to leather.

The material is soft yet strong, waterproof, washable, very durable and wears like leather. Each of our team work with Hayashi products in their day to day and they last. This longevity is key as we are striving to support the ever growing planet-conscious mindset without compromising on functionality and fashion.

It sounds interesting but what does the name Hayashi mean?

The name Hayashi means ‘Forest’ in Japanese and also shares the same meaning as Kim and Aimée’s Chinese family name Lam. Read about this in our previous blog explaining our brands heritage here, where we explain the history behind our paper leather accessories.

At the forefront, the Hayashi team design with a circular mindset by considering how products are produced, used and disposed of.

To mirror the nature of the materials we use, the pallet is that of nature, the earth and neutrality. With five colours featured in our collections (tan, dust, bottle, olive and black) we maintain a gender neutral pallet across all Hayashi paper leather accessories.
